Gift From the Sky
In futuristic Tokyo, one object still holds the power to ruin a life.
Once upon a time, centuries from now, a princess named Cherry Cloudkeeper lived in a floating apartment building. She may not have been a real princess, but that’s what her father called her. She had long green hair and a bunny shaped backpack, and like the other residents of Floating Tokyo, she had evolved a pair of wings.
In the UnderCity of Tokyo, the poor scrambled for survival in high rises as ragged as empty cereal boxes. The air was slimy with pollution and the streets teemed with rats the size of small dinosaurs. Flokyo, meanwhile, had been built to keep the rich above all that unpleasantness.
There was only one problem high in the air. Every building had a Cloudkeeper, who used their magic to enfold the buildings in layers of clouds. The clouds were necessary to keep the Hawigaki, giant birds with beaks like toboggans and claws like backhoes, from pecking out the windows and eating the people within.
Cherry was good at magic, and she was the Cloudkeeper for her building. She worked hard, but still filled her spare time with hobbies. She loved experimenting with her hair. She watched anime someone had downloaded before the end times. She filmed makeup tutorials which no one would ever see, as the internet was history.
